On Being a Savant

Q: What Does Being a Savant Mean to You?

A: I would describe a “Savant” as someone with deep knowledge. It’s likened to meeting a friend for the first time and instantly feeling a connection that leads to a lifelong friendship. In retrospect, you might think, “I knew they would become a friend.” I experienced this sensation when I first became a behavior therapist and had a one-on-one session with a kiddo. I felt a strong calling to pursue this path. It was never something I had envisioned for myself, but when the opportunity arose, I instinctively knew it was meant for me. It felt almost supernatural.

The Moment of Realization

Q: The Moment You Knew You Were Unique—How Did It Shape You?

A: I was born with an outie belly button, which meant I couldn’t be the typical teenager flaunting a crop top in the ’90s. However, that never hindered my sense of style and personality. It became a defining feature in my life that influenced the way I presented myself. I refused to let things that others couldn’t relate to hold me back. I start to explore innovative methods to convey my thoughts and personal experiences through creativity. Even in the realm of business, I seek opportunities to develop something original.

Daily Rituals and Passion

Q: What’s Your Daily Ritual for Tapping into Your Genius?

A: Paying tribute to the creator, I surrender myself to the ever-present love that surrounds us. I find peace in my connection with nature, embracing the harmonious rhythms of love.

On Identity and Labels

Q: In a World Obsessed with Labels, How Do You Define Yourself?

A: What an excellent question! It all starts with understanding your identity, your background, and your future aspirations. The only label that resonates with me is love. I aspire for my identity to reflect faith and hope, believing that having fragments of a broken cup is better than having no cup at all.

Misconceptions

Q: What’s the Most Misunderstood Aspect of Your Identity or Life/Work?

A: I don’t know yet! I’m still being judged.

Creative Inspirations

Q: Which Piece of Music, Art, or Literature Speaks to Your Soul—and Why?

A: I am truly inspired by the story of Sojourner Truth. She embodies everything I aspire to be. Filled with hope and love, she aimed to change the world with a single idea. Her perseverance is remarkable; she tirelessly sought out the truth throughout her life.

Legacy and Impact

Q: What’s Your Legacy in the Making?

A: I aspire for others to see me and think, “I can achieve that.” I believe nothing can hold me back. I will persevere and do everything within my power to assist someone else, even if it impacts just one person’s life. That the single life of one holds immense significance for them.

Bold Moves

Q: What’s the Most Radical Thing You’ve Ever Done in the Name of Passion?

A: I left a luxurious career in interior design to support families with children who have special needs. I’m excited to announce my upcoming book titled “Why I Left a Million Dollar Career for Autism.” It’s heartfelt and deeply passionate, making a bold statement!

Balancing Act

Q: How Do You Balance the Chaos and the Calm in Your Life?

A: Prayer and establishing safe environments for my well-being.

Role Models and Lessons Learned

Q: Who’s Your Ultimate Role Model—And What Have They Taught You?

A: The Lord and Savior is my role model. He taught me how I can cultivate love and compassion for everyone who enters my presence.

Advice to Younger Self

Q: If You Could Speak to Your Younger Self, What Advice Would You Give?

A: Now Girl, Be gentle with yourself and practice patience. Embrace each day as it comes and remember to express gratitude.

The Power of Words

Q: What’s Your Favorite Curse Word or Expletive, and Why?

A: I don’t typically use curse words, but I do enjoy being creative with my language. Being around kids every day has influenced this. For instance, I might say “not too much,” which actually conveys a side-eye message of “don’t test me.”

Looking Forward

Q: What Are You Looking Forward To?

A: I’m thrilled about the numerous new projects on the horizon! Before December, I’ll be launching 2 e-books. Additionally, I’m excited to host my very first “Parent Help Parent” support group designed for parents of children and young adults with special needs. I’ve also introduced the first-ever special needs homecare service in Georgia. There are many more exciting developments in the pipeline that I can’t share just yet, so I encourage everyone to stay tuned!
